Like so many people, my life has been profoundly touched by adoption. Currently, I am writing a memoir chronicling my personal experiences growing up adopted, searching for my birth family and ultimately becoming an adoptive parent. By writing about my own life I hope to provide insight into, and understanding of, different aspects of adoption, while exploring the complex challenges and questions of identity, spirituality, love and family.

Educational Background: I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Centenary College of Louisiana, a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Oklahoma, a Master of Science in Nursing degree, with a Healthcare Management and Administration concentration, from the University of Texas and am a licensed Registered Nurse.

Professional Experience: I have held multiple positions in health and human services, primarily in state government management and administration. Most recently I was the Manager of Health Facility Licensing, for the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), which licenses and regulates hospitals, surgery centers and other medical facilities. I also worked extensively in the development of health facility rules and regulations, as well as representing DSHS in the Texas State Legislature.

I have been involved with adoption-related organizations as a member, speaker and writer. Currently, I am on the Board of Directors for two such organizations, both of which are located in Austin, Texas: Adoption Advocates, Inc. (AAI), an adoption agency  and Adoption Knowledge Affiliates (AKA), an education and support organization for anyone whose life has been touched by adoption.

Personal: I live in Austin, Texas, am married, have two children and one grandson.
